Yesterday, I went in for a CT scan of my GI tract. The scan seemed to be fine, then they came out and said the images weren't good, and I had to do it again. The CT order was for a scan with contrast, which is done by injecting iodine into the body and scanning it for a clear image. They gave me a second dose of the iodine and scanned me again. Then the tech came out and said it will have to do because they don't give more than two doses of the contrasting agent at any given time. So, I got in my dad's truck to head for home, and I experienced real strong nausea and started vomiting. I was sick all the way home, with violent vomiting and severe pain. My chronic condition has the same symptoms, but this hit me harder and faster than normal.
When I got home I asked my wife to look up the side effects of iodine CT contrast and the top of the list had nausea and vomiting. I spent the rest of the day and night dealing with the ramifications of the CT. I'm much more sensitive than the average guy due to my ongoing chronic GI issues, but even so, I do not recommend a double dose of iodine contrasting for any future CT scans.
